EAS (Emergency Actions Simulator) philosophy.

People learn and retain what they learn most effectively in an environment where they complete real-life tasks. The main reason is that real-life tasks provide an opportunity for real-life failures so people learn quickly from their mistakes.

When learners receive guidance following their mistakes, a natural desire to understand what went wrong, why it happened, and how to avoid making the same mistakes in the future, encourages true learning. Such mistakes are the foundation of the most effective methods of training.

The main philosophy of our simulation modules, which are developed for our EAS Desktop Ship Simulator, is a controllable reproduction of the real shipboard environment that is as realistic as possible and provides the opportunity for the user to make mistakes and face the consequences. Creation of such training tools, which replicate conditions in a virtual shipboard environment, have the objective to enhance experience, decision making and knowledge, in a range of routine and emergency situations faced onboard.

EAS structure

EAS is a computer-based 3D simulation of a shipboard environment. Using state-of-the art technology, as used today by the video game industry, EAS Desktop Ship Simulator delivers more than a simple navigation of the ship.

Designed to operate on a single, low cost, personal computer, it delivers a level of visual and functional realism of a ship which enables the user to be part of a normal or emergency operation onboard a ship, and complete a range of missions as set by current maritime rules & regulations.

The EAS structure is designed to guide user from simple familiarization tasks that is ordered by a virtual familiarisation Officer to complete -based on STCW 95 A-VI/1 requirements, to the fulfillment of advanced scenario missions.

Simulation Features

1. Walk around the virtual environment & interact with ship equipment.

Explore all spaces of the ship & interact with equipment – (operate, shut down, move, etc).

2. Real Time feedback of crew events, ship’s condition or scenario progress.

Voice and text features to enhance communication between user and virtual crew.

3. Realistic sea and weather conditions.

Representation of sea states and day / night as well as fog according to scenario.

4. Review of assessment results.

Log of every action against time as monitoring tool on user’s performance.

5. Library of predefined scenarios to select (e.g. contingencies or operation) applicable for Tankers & Bulkers:

The library of scenarios for EAS Desktop Ship Simulator is divided in four training suites with missions as follows:

Safety Training Suite : Abandon ship, Man overboard, Helicopter operations.

Fire Training Suite: Personal Protective equipment, Emergency fire pump & ventilation systems, Portable fire extinguishers, Operate fixed fire fighting systems, Fire in accommodation, Fire in engine room, Fire in cargo tanks / holds, Fire on deck.

Crisis management suite: Collision, Grounding, Explosion, Structural damage, Excessive list, Flooding, Search & Rescue.

Routine Operations suite: Loading / Unloading (with built-in loading program), Bunkering, Ship handling, Tanker operations, Ballasting operations, Navigation & watch keeping.
